Turning 65 is a big deal, but the 3 months leading up to your 65th birthday are an even bigger deal. Signing up for Medicare is very specific on what you need to do and when you need to do it. You can’t sign up too early, and if you sign up too late you can be penalized. There is a 7 month timeline that is important to keep in mind. The 3 months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday and the 3 months following your 65th birthday. During that those 7 months you are free to sign up for Medicare at any time.
